DCOM (ARC62404)

DESIGN
COMMUNICATION

Design Communication (ARC62404) serves as an introduction to fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings to prepare students with the skills required in design projects. Students can learn to introduce design communication skills through architectural graphics and modeling. And also, develop skills in visualization and communication of architectural idea, space and form.

TGC 8.1 Effective use of ICT and related technology

PROJECT 1:
Architectural Graphics, Sketching and Tonal Values (Tutorial Exercises + Poster)
(20%+ 20%)

In this project, I have gained the ability to showcase understanding of cultural, historical, and established architectural theories and philosophies. I have also learned how to express architectural forms and spatial concepts through hand drawing, emphasizing visualization.

PROJECT 2:
Orthographic, Axonometric & Perspective Drawings (Drawing)
(40%)

Throughout this project, I have acquired the skill to produce designs at suitable complexities and scales, extending to the schematic level using appropriate communication tools. Additionally, I have also developed the ability to translate visual information into both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional orthographic drawings.

PROJECT 3:
Finishing & Presentation (Presentation Board)
(20%)

After this project, I'm proficient in translating designs into construction drawings, incorporating suitable construction details and adhering to established architectural drawing conventions. Furthermore, I can also generate visual compositions, presentation drawings, and models for architectural design projects.

REFLECTION

In this project, I have honed my understanding of cultural and historical architectural theories, showcasing it through hand-drawn expressions. Progressing further, I have acquired the skill to produce intricate designs up to the schematic level using effective communication tools. My proficiency extends to translating visual information into 2D and 3D orthographic drawings, and I have developed the capability to create construction drawings with appropriate details. Beyond that, I can now craft compelling visual compositions, presentation drawings, and models for diverse architectural design projects, marking a comprehensive growth in my skill set.
