AD I
ARCHITECTURAL
DESIGN I
Architectural Design I (ARC60208) serves as an initial exploration into architectural design. This module seeks to introduce design concepts by exploring the notions of 'self' and the body, construction, and materiality in terms of tectonics. We can learn fundamental methods, principles and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design through this module. The incorporation of anthropometrics will further enrich the experience, involving creative exercises that consider body movements and user experiences in designing intrapersonal spaces.
PROJECT 1:
Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements and Principles
(10%)
Through this project, I have acquired the skill of proficiently generating design concepts by exploring various sources and abstracting ideas. I can now recognise key architectural design elements and principles, and apply them to create a spatially impactful architectural composition.
TGC 1.1 Able to put thoeries into practice
TGC 2.2 Licate, extract, synthesis and utilise information effectively
TGC 3.1 Think critically and creatively
PROJECT 2:
Structure and Body: Material, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration
(30%)
Following this project, I've delved into the correlation between the 'self' and the body concerning space and its experiential qualities. Additionally, I've honed my ability to collaborate within a team, actively contribute to the design process, and convert ideas into construction drawings, integrating pertinent construction details while adhering to established architectural drawing conventions.
TGC 5.1 Understand team dynamics and mobilise the power of teams
TGC 6.2 Reflection one's action and learning
TGC 7.1 Be aware of and form opinions from diverse perspectives
PROJECT 3:
Space and Sensory: Self Exploration through Spaces
(60%)
Throughout this project, I've acquired the ability to develop a foundational understanding of materiality and detailing to capture the experiential qualities of a design. I can proficiently demonstrate manual and model-making skills to effectively represent and communicate the design. Furthermore, I showcase comprehension of cultural, historical, and established architectural theories, philosophies, and contexts, along with the capacity to translate creativity, innovation, and imagination into a cohesive architectural design solution.
TGC 1.3 Understand professional practice within the field of study
TGC 3.2 Define and analyse problems to arrive at effective solutions
TGC 4.1 Communicate appropriately in various settings and modes
REFLECTION
In a nut shell, I have developed proficiency in generating design concepts, recognizing key architectural elements, and applying them for impactful compositions. My exploration into the correlation between 'self' and space has deepened, while teamwork, contribution to design processes, and translating ideas into construction drawings have been honed. I have also developed skills include understanding materiality, detailing, model-making, and effectively communicating designs.
